Katarina Wit first started skating at age five. Soon, her talents began to emerge and she was invited to Karl-Marx-Stadt's school for special needs. At this school she got to know their teacher Jutta Muler. Witt was able to make her debut season in 1982 when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since that time the elegance and grace of her skating attracted the attention of everyone. She began to dominate the sport. Olympic success Katarina (now Witt) took home the women's Figure Skating Gold Medal during Sarajevo in the Sarajevo Winter Games. She won a much closer competition four years later. The free skate she took was not a success, however her gold medal came from her performances in both the compulsory figures (short program) and the compulsory figures. Witt was the first woman to be a repeated winner of figure skating following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the figure skating sport to take part in the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. While she was not able to take home a medal, the young woman delighted her fans despite coming in seventh. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame occurred in the year 1995.
